In October 2023, the Multilateral Chamber of Commerce and Cooperation Israel Ibero-America (now the Israel Ibero-America Chamber of Commerce) announced that it was working to organize a humanitarian flight for the hundreds of tourists stranded in Israel by the conflict. The initiative was a response to the humanitarian crisis the State of Israel is going through due to the recent attacks perpetrated by the terrorist group Hamas.
Humanitarian Flight Details
- Destination: the city of Larnaca (Cyprus) or Bucharest (Romania).
- Capacity: a maximum of 150 people.
- Tentative departure date: October 16.
The purpose of this initiative is to provide an exit route to a connecting point in the European Union, from where passengers will be able to continue their journey on available commercial flights. In this way, it seeks to offer a solution to people affected by the conflict who need to leave the country.
Following the attacks of October 7, 2023, numerous international airlines suspended or reduced their flights to Israel. Cyprus and Romania are Member States of the European Union.
