On March 5, 2020, the Costa Rica Support and Promotion Office (OSPCR), together with the Multilateral Chamber of Commerce and Cooperation Israel Ibero-America (now the Israel Ibero-America Chamber of Commerce), organized a meeting between H.E. Mr. Jordi Gallardo, Minister of Economy of the Principality of Andorra, and the Hon. Mr. Federico Chaverri Suárez, Director General of Costa Rica’s National Animal Health Service (SENASA). The meeting took place on the occasion of the Government of Andorra’s first official visit to the Republic of Costa Rica.
Economic exchange in the animal sector between Andorra and Costa Rica
The meeting assessed the opportunities for economic exchange in the animal sector that could be developed between the two states.
To this end, the technical and phytosanitary requirements of both the Republic of Costa Rica and the Principality of Andorra were taken into consideration.
What SENASA Costa Rica is
The National Animal Health Service (SENASA) is the Costa Rican institution, attached to the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAG), responsible for animal health and the sanitary control of products of animal origin, including those that are imported and exported.
The Concert for Peace, the origin of the visit
The Andorran minister’s visit to Costa Rica took place thanks to the third edition of the Concert for Peace, an event that the OSPCR organizes year after year in Jerusalem to commemorate the abolition of the Costa Rican army and, at the same time, to showcase Costa Rica through its culture.
Costa Rica abolished its army in 1948, a decision enshrined in the 1949 Political Constitution.
