In November 2019, the Ibero-American delegation of the Multilateral Chamber of Commerce and Cooperation Israel Ibero-America (now the Israel Ibero-America Chamber of Commerce) visited Yad Vashem in Jerusalem. During the visit, representatives of Costa Rica and Spain laid a floral wreath and the Eternal Flame was rekindled in memory of the victims of the Holocaust.

What Is Yad Vashem, the Holocaust Museum

Yad Vashem, commonly known in Spanish as the Holocaust Museum, is one of the most important museums both in the State of Israel and in the Jewish world at large, as it seeks to preserve the memory of the millions of Jewish victims who suffered and died in the Nazi concentration camps during the Second World War.

Established in 1953 by a law of the Knesset, the Parliament of Israel, Yad Vashem is the World Holocaust Remembrance Center and is located on the Mount of Remembrance in Jerusalem. In addition to the museum, it houses archives, a library, and research and education centers.

Commemorative Ceremony of the Ibero-American Delegation

As protocol dictates, one representative per country was chosen from among the members of the Ibero-American delegation to perform the commemorative acts carried out by any senior government representative visiting the State of Israel for the first time.

On this occasion, Congresswoman Ana Karine Niño was chosen from among the Costa Rican members of congress, in her capacity as head of mission, along with Senator Marta Pascal, representing the Kingdom of Spain. Both laid the floral wreath, while Minister Jordi Gallardo rekindled the Eternal Flame.

Remarks by the Costa Rican Delegation at Yad Vashem

At the end of the official ceremony, the head of mission, on behalf of the Costa Rican legislative delegation, signed the guest book and addressed a few words to those present, which demonstrated once again that the Costa Rican people are a friend of the Jewish people.

The other members of the delegation did the same, including Senator Marta Pascal and Minister Jordi Gallardo.
