On March 5, 2020, the Costa Rica Support and Promotion Office (OSPCR) and the Multilateral Chamber of Commerce and Cooperation Israel Ibero-America (now the Israel Ibero-America Chamber of Commerce) organized a meeting between Andorra’s Minister of Economy, Costa Rica’s Minister of Foreign Trade and the Chair of the International Affairs Committee of the Legislative Assembly. The meeting was held on the occasion of the Government of Andorra’s first official visit to the Republic of Costa Rica.

Participants in the meeting

  • H.E. Mr. Jordi Gallardo, Minister of Economy of the Principality of Andorra.
  • H.E. Ms. Dyalá Jiménez, Minister of Foreign Trade of Costa Rica.
  • H.E. Ms. Ana Karine Niño, congresswoman and Chair of the International Affairs Committee of the Legislative Assembly of Costa Rica.

The Ministry of Foreign Trade (COMEX) is the Costa Rican government institution responsible for defining and directing the country’s trade and foreign investment policy.

Foreign trade between Costa Rica and Andorra

The meeting assessed opportunities for economic exchange in the field of foreign trade. It took into account the opportunities offered by the Association Agreement between the European Union and Central America, signed in 2012 and applied since 2013, and the customs union that Andorra maintains with the European Union.

The Concert for Peace, the origin of the visit

The Andorran minister’s visit to Costa Rica took place thanks to the third edition of the Concert for Peace. The OSPCR organizes this event year after year in Jerusalem to commemorate the abolition of the Costa Rican army and, at the same time, to showcase Costa Rica through its culture.

Costa Rica abolished its army in 1948, a decision enshrined in the 1949 Political Constitution.
