In September 2023, Paul Stephen, regional director of the Multilateral Chamber of Commerce and Cooperation Israel Ibero-America (now the Israel Ibero-America Chamber of Commerce), met with representatives of the Salvadoran Chamber of Fisheries and Aquaculture (CAMPAC). The aim was to discuss strategies to strengthen fishing and aquaculture activity in El Salvador.

Technological innovation and best practices in fisheries and aquaculture

The meeting addressed initiatives focused on incorporating technological innovations and implementing best practices in both sectors. The parties agreed on the importance of adopting modern, sustainable methods that boost productivity while preserving the country’s natural resources.

Aquaculture is the farming of aquatic organisms, such as fish, crustaceans, mollusks or aquatic plants, under controlled conditions. Together with capture fisheries, it is one of the main sources of aquatic food.

Cooperation between chambers for El Salvador’s sustainable development

Stephen highlighted the importance of collaboration between chambers of commerce and productive sectors to foster economic growth and sustainable development in the region. The meeting is part of CILIB’s ongoing efforts to contribute to the development of initiatives that benefit various industries in El Salvador.

Commitment to the future of the fisheries and aquaculture sector

Both institutions expressed their commitment to working together to explore opportunities that will allow the country’s fishing and aquaculture industry to grow and adapt to the demands of today’s market, in order to ensure a prosperous and sustainable future for this economic activity.
