The Chamber's Ibero-American delegation during its visit to the Hebrew University of Jerusalem

In November 2019, the Ibero-American delegation invited to the State of Israel by the Multilateral Chamber of Commerce and Cooperation Israel Ibero-America (now the Israel Ibero-America Chamber of Commerce) visited the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. During the meeting, a historical analysis of relations between Israel and Ibero-America was carried out, with special attention to Costa Rica.

One of Israel’s leading universities

The Hebrew University is one of the most prominent universities in the State of Israel and has been internationally recognized as one of the top 100 universities in the world. Inaugurated in 1925 in Jerusalem, it counted Albert Einstein among its founders.

For this reason, during the visit to the State of Israel organized by the Chamber, priority was given to scheduling a meeting at this university.

Analysis of relations between Israel and Costa Rica

The members of the delegation were received by Professor Barak Medina, Rector of the University, and by Professor Leonardo Senkman, a member of the university’s Institute of Ibero-American Studies.

Together they carried out a historical analysis of relations between Israel and Ibero-America, and especially with Costa Rica. The meeting provided an opportunity to look back on the positive results that the relationship between both countries has yielded.

Participation of Costa Rica’s National Technical University

Costa Rica was also represented by Professor Julio César González, who came to the State of Israel as a delegate of the National Technical University (UTN).

The Chamber’s organizing committee considered Julio González’s participation in the Ibero-American delegation to be strategic, since UTN is a public university focused on fostering development and training in the use of new technologies within Costa Rican society.

The Chamber and academic cooperation with Israel

The Chamber promotes academic, commercial and technological cooperation between Israel and the Ibero-American countries. More information is available in the Israel country profile, the Costa Rica country profile and the Chamber’s cooperation agreements.
